Safety & Handling Precautions for Pyrethrin Liquid (CAS: 8003-34-7) & Formulated Products

Although pyrethrin-based products are classified as low-toxicity biopesticides, strict safety protocols must be followed during handling, storage, application and disposal to protect human health, non-target organisms and the environment. Below are the core precautionary guidelines compliant with global occupational safety and pesticide management regulations:

1. Handling & Application Precautions

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during handling, mixing and spraying, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, long-sleeve clothing, face masks and non-slip boots. Avoid direct skin contact, eye irritation and inhalation of spray mist or liquid vapor.

  • Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply cosmetics while handling pyrethrin liquid or formulated emulsions, and wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and clean water immediately after operation.

  • Keep the product out of reach of children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and pets, and prohibit unauthorized personnel from entering the application area during spraying and until the surface is completely dry.

  • Avoid application near water sources (rivers, lakes, ponds, drinking water tanks), aquaculture areas, beehives and flowering plants to prevent harm to aquatic organisms and pollinating beneficial insects; do not spray directly onto edible crops within the mandatory pre-harvest interval (PHI).

2. Storage Requirements

  • Store original sealed packaging in a cool, dry, well-ventilated and fireproof special warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, sparks and incompatible substances (strong oxidizers, food, feed, seeds and pharmaceuticals).

  • Keep the storage area locked and clearly labeled with warning signs for insecticide products, and avoid stacking heavy goods on top of packaging to prevent leakage and damage.

  • Maintain stable storage temperature and humidity, prevent freezing or high-temperature exposure, as extreme temperatures may damage product stability and emulsification performance.

3. First Aid & Emergency Measures

  • Skin Contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing, rinse the affected skin area with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention if irritation, redness or allergic reaction occurs.

  • Eye Contact: Rinse eyes gently and continuously with clean running water for 20-30 minutes, holding eyelids open to ensure full rinsing, and go to the hospital for ophthalmic examination immediately.

  • Inhalation: Quickly move the victim to a fresh, ventilated area, keep warm and rested; if breathing is difficult or abnormal, provide oxygen and seek emergency medical treatment promptly.

  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting forcibly to avoid aspiration; rinse mouth with clean water and take the product label to the hospital immediately for targeted medical treatment.

4. Disposal & Environmental Protection

  • Do not pour unused pyrethrin liquid or emulsion waste into sewers, soil or water bodies; dispose of waste liquid and empty packaging in accordance with local hazardous waste disposal regulations and pesticide management standards.

  • Empty packaging containers must not be reused for storing food, water, feed or other daily necessities, and should be crushed or sealed before professional hazardous waste treatment.

  • In case of accidental leakage, isolate the leakage area immediately, absorb the liquid with inert materials (such as sand, sawdust or absorbent cotton), and collect the waste for centralized harmless treatment to avoid environmental pollution.

5. Additional Regulatory Notes

This product is intended for professional and household pest control use only as per labeled instructions. Do not alter the formulation concentration, mix with other incompatible pesticides or chemicals without professional guidance, and comply with local pesticide registration, application and transportation laws to ensure safe and standardized use.
